Spiders are a very common pest in the Reno area. Although most spiders in the area are completely harmless there are some that can be dangerous.
The Black widow spider is very common in Reno, they are very easily distinguished from other spiders by their black abdomen, long black legs and red hourglass shape on their belly. They are most commonly found in dark places such as in garages and in crawl spaces.
The Black widow web is very distinct from other spiders. It resembles a cotton ball that has been stretched and pulled apart.
The Black Widow bite can be dangerous depending on who has been bitten and where the bite has occurred. Children and the elderly as well as anyone who has been bitten in the chest or neck region should seek immediate medical attention.
A black widows venom is 15 times stronger then a rattle snakes & can cause muscle pain, abdominal cramps and tremors. In severe cases, nausea,vomiting, fainting, dizziness, chest pain, and respiratory difficulties. *Only female bites are dangerous to humans.
